What we do

PERFORMANCE TRAINING

PERFORMANCE TRAINING

performance training

Gone are the days when "pumping iron" on muscle beach was thought to create elite athletes! While athletes will become bigger and stronger, moving with speed and suppleness are far more important to excelling in today’s sports. In order to be effective, athletes must be able to accelerate, decelerate, and change direction as quickly as humanly possible.

NextGen Athletics accomplishes this by exposing our athletes to progressively complex movement strategies and challenging situations, while allowing them to succeed.

Training groups are composed of 3-10 athletes of similar goals and ages. Across 10 years of coaching, I have found that this group size allows for optimal individual feedback while encouraging a healthy, competitive culture for athletes to excel.

Recommended Frequency

The ages between 8-12 in a child's development have been determined through research to be the most important years of physical development to determine life long potential. This does not imply heavy weight lifting, but movement quality and coordination.

These recommendations vary based on time of year (off-season vs in-season)

Athletes up to age 12 are recommended to train 1-2 days/week.

Athletes older than 13 are recommended to train 3-4 days/week for optimal results.

DIFFERENT GROUPS FOR DIFFERENT GOALS

Hockey Dryland

Specifically designed for hockey players 13+ years and older looking to build explosive speed, strength, and stamina on the ice.

The elite do NOT rely solely on team practice to become the best; they put in the work on AND off the ice.

YOUTH Performance

Training designed SPECIFICALLY for 8-12 year old athletes of all sports.

This group will be focused on building great coordination, smooth movement, and introduction to athletic training. This is the foundation of physical and mental development that translates to both sport and life.

Field Speed & Strength

Athletes who sign up for this group participate in field and court sports like baseball, basketball, soccer, etc.

This group is focused on building explosive speed, running mechanics, and change of direction training with supportive strength training.

PERFORMANCE TRAINING Group Schedules

The current spring schedule (right) applies until June and is subject to change based on holidays and demand.

ON-ICE HOCKEY COACHING

ON-ICE HOCKEY COACHING

ON-ICE Skill Development

NGA on-ice coaching is designed to help hockey players further develop all aspects of the game. Sessions are designed to enhance skaters' confidence and competence with in-game situations. Skills such as power skating, passing, and hockey IQ are emphasized in different situations to implore expansive progress.

On-ice sessions are organized into groups from 3-6 skaters of similar skill level. The purpose for this is to challenge every athlete, not overwhelm athletes who need more time working on fundamentals, and to not deter more advanced skaters from progressing further.

In order to accomplish this, new athletes and their parents must converse with one of the on-ice coaches to determine the appropriate group for each individual player.

DRYLAND TRAINING

Dryland training is the secret weapon of every great hockey player. Think about your favorite NHL player and their career. You get to see them at the peak of their athletic prowess in the NHL during games, this is the tip of the iceberg. You see the outcome of endless hours in the gym preparing for those moments. The blood, sweat, and tears of grinding away at 5 AM, pounding box jumps, throwing medicine balls, and gasping for breathe on the bike are the behind the scenes that the rest of the world will never witness.

NextGen Atheltics focuses on athletic development to improve hockey players in the most dynamic way possible. Hockey players must be able to twist, turn, stop, start, and move in 3-dimensions all at once, WHILE BALANCING ON 1/2 INCH BLADES! Building the ultimate hockey player cannot result from simply picking up and putting down heavy weight or simply practicing on the ice in today’s game.

We focus on coaching athletes to move smoothly and aggressively in order to become explosive WITH GREAT CONTROL!
